Two Burlington City men have been charged with shooting at each other during a daylight, running gun battle earlier this month in the city.
Shaun Causey, 38, and Jamaar White, 32, each face aggravated assault and firearm possession charges, including being a felon in possession of a weapon, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.
A Facebook page posted footage of the June 9 gunfire in the East Burlington neighborhood that was recorded by a home security system. It shows one gunman chasing another from Bordentown Road to Columbus Road, where one gunman falls to the ground.
Neither Causey nor White suffered a direct gunshot wound. White suffered a graze to his arm, the prosecutor’s office said.
The prosecutor’s office did not reveal the motive for the shooting.
The bullets did do some damage. One penetrated the wall of a house and one struck a parked vehicle, the prosecutor’s office said. Detectives later found that a 2-year-old was playing outside when the shooting started at about 1 p.m.
Both men have felony convictions. White was sentenced to probation in 2023 for making terroristic threats, records show.
Causey has three separate convictions since 2017. The latest was in 2023, when he pleaded guilty to a contempt charge in a case that involved the shooting of a man in Burlington City, and for which Causey was originally charged with attempted murder, court records show.
Attorney information for the suspects was not immediately available on Monday.
“Neighborhoods throughout Burlington County are populated by law-abiding, hard-working citizens who are simply trying to enjoy life and raise their children in a safe environment,” Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw said in a statement. “Those who treat public streets as shooting galleries to settle personal vendettas, as these two defendants chose to do, will be swiftly caught and fully punished for their reckless behavior.”
Prosecutor’s detectives Michael Mora, Kaitlin White and Burlington Detective William Lancenese are investigating the case.
