Brent Johnson is a political reporter in the Statehouse bureau of The Star-Ledger and NJ.com, covering the governor and state Legislature. He has worked at the bureau since 2013 and won multiple state journalism awards, including for his work on the COVID-19 pandemic and Gov. Phil Murphy's administration. Before that, he covered both local news and sports for the company and wrote about James Madison University sports for The Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg, Va. He grew up in Central Jersey (yes, it's real) and graduated from Rutgers University with degrees in journalism and American Studies.
