Man sexually assaulted young child at N.J. apartment, cops allege

A 66-year-old man has been charged with various crimes in the sexual assault of a young child at an apartment in Hudson County.

Francisco Ruiz, of Union City, was arrested on Friday by members of the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Monday.

He is charged with both first and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree terroristic threats and criminal restraint.

Authorities allege that Ruiz sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl at an apartment in Union City last month. He then allegedly threatened her with additional harm if she reported the crimes, prosecutors said.

He is in custody at Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
