The deadline to get money back if you repaired or replaced certain Whirlpool, KitchenAid or Maytag three-door refrigerators is almost here.
Some units manufactured between 2012 and 2019 are part of a class action settlement that ends a lawsuit that claimed faulty evaporators caused frost and ice build-up, the settlement website said.
The deadline to file a claim is Wednesday, June 18.
Whirlpool denies any wrongdoing, according to the settlement website. The company did not respond to requests for comment about the issue.
You could be eligible for up to $300 if you paid out-of-pocket to repair or replace your evaporator or if you purchased a new refrigerator because of the issue. The payment must have been made for a malfunction that occurred within eight years of your refrigerator’s manufacturing date, the website said.
Eligible units include those purchased outright and those who received their refrigerators as part of a home purchase, the settlement said.
To see if your refrigerator qualifies, by enter your serial number online or call (866) 759-5173.
Newer frost issues may also be covered by the settlement. If you have an expense because of a frost issue after Jan. 31, 2025 and within the eight-year manufacturing window, you may file a claim within 90 days of your payout for repairs or for the purchase of a new refrigerator, the settlement website said.
The deadline for those claims is Dec. 31, 2028.
