Pop star Katy Perry was surprised by a fan who ran onstage during her recent concert performance.
A concert attendee invaded the stage at Perry’s Monday show in Sydney, Australia and grabbed her before security intervened. Video footage of the event has now gone viral.
Perry, 40, was in the middle of performing “Hot N Cold” when a concertgoer crashed the stage and put his arm around her.
After squealing in shock, Perry moved out of the man’s grasp as he continued dancing for a few seconds before two security guards began to remove him from the stage.
“Well, there’s never going to be another show like this. So just enjoy it, Sydney‚" Perry said before she jumped back into the lyrics.
Two additional security guards joined the effort to remove the fan, prompting Perry to shout, “What the hell is going on?”
Police in told NBC News that the man was arrested and charged with entering enclosed land and obstructing a person in performance of work or duties. The man, identified as Australian TikTok prankster Johnson Wen, was granted conditional bail and is set to appear in court June 23. Wen has been banned from Sydney Olympic Park for six months as well.
“I was like, ‘Let me get on stage with you,’ and then she freaked out because I think she realized I wasn’t a performer,” Wen told Australia’s 9News.
Wen, who describes himself as a “troll” on his TikTok page, previously invaded a concert by The Weeknd in Melbourne last year and ran onto the field during the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in 2023. The videos are posted to his account.
“I’m planning to quit forever, because you get in way too much trouble for it,” Wen said.
Perry has yet to comment publicly on the situation as she continues “The Lifetime Tour” which runs through Aug. 23, playing Newark’s Prudential Center Aug. 14.
