This house in Atlantic City is not what you’d expect to find, steps from the beach and boardwalk.
It has a terra cotta roof, hundred-year-old inlay hardwood flooring, stained glass and lots of double French doors.
“It’s like it was taken out of Europe and put in Atlantic City,” said Todd Gordon of BHHS Fox & Roach Margate, the listing agent. “I feel like I’m in a museum.”
The four-bedroom, five-bathroom, 4,250-square-foot home, is listed for $1.3 million.
The home was built in 1920, during Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Empire era and Prohibition.
It is one of a handful of houses of this style in Atlantic City, Margate and Ventnor. And it’s located on a beach block, at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and South Raleigh Avenue.
You enter the home into a foyer with marble tile and a curved staircase. To the left are double doors leading to a formal living room with ornate ceilings and woodwork and a marble fireplace. Off that is a sunroom with arched windows. On the opposite side of the foyer is a dining room, a sitting room, a powder room, the kitchen and an office with wood-paneled walls and built-ins.
Some of the antique furniture is included in the sale price, Gordon said.
The second floor, which once had four bedrooms, now has three. Two were combined to expand the primary bedroom, which has an en suite bathroom, a sitting room and a deck with ocean views. The two other bedrooms share a bathroom and have access to a deck on the back of the house.
The third floor was turned into a guest or in-law suite with a bedroom, full bathroom, kitchenette and living area.
The basement level has an indoor pool, which is not currently being used.
The home is located in the historic Lower Chelsea neighborhood, about a mile from the Tropicana Atlantic City, near the Ventnor City border. “It’s the residential area of Atlantic City,” he said, where you can walk to restaurants, the beach and boardwalk.
It’s been on the market for less than two weeks and interest has been good, Gordon said. “People are just falling in love with it and don’t want to leave. They’re taking in all the details.”
The buyer will likely be someone who falls in love with the style, he said. “Someone who wants more of a home than a house at the beach.”
