Smash burgers are buzzing and that’s no secret. It seems like it’s impossible to scroll social media without coming across some sort of smashed beef patty slathered in sauce and dropped on a fluffy bun.
Plenty of eateries are adding smash burgers to their menus and those that already offered smash burgers are finding ways to set theirs apart from others. But a new South Jersey burger spot called Smash Bros is separating itself from the pack and staking its claim as the best smash burger — and maybe best burger overall — in the area.
Brothers Mo, 29, and Fahmi Abuhmoud, 26, opened Smash Bros, a small hut just off of the Black Horse Pike (Route 168) in Runnemede back in April.
The 500-square-foot location has posed a challenge, considering the spot’s instant popularity.
“It’s extremely difficult to do the volume that we’re doing out of our location but somehow we’ve been making it work,” Mo Abuhmoud told NJ Advance Media last week.
The owner wanted to start small alongside his younger brother and build up the business.
“I thought in a smaller place, that’d give us the chance to perfect our operation and then be able to expand to more locations that way instead of starting big and losing track of what we really wanted to do,” Abuhmoud said.

The quarters may be close but that doesn’t mean Smash Bros is cutting corners.
Smash Bros’ patties, a ground brisket blend that gets delivered daily, are smashed — not too thin, these aren’t burger chips — and cooked to perfection. The juicy patties, succulent grilled onions, homemade burger sauce, cheese and crisp pickles stacked onto a Martin’s potato roll form the perfect marriage of flavor. If there’s a line, it’s worth the wait.
Burgers can be ordered in a single ($6), double ($8) or triple ($10); and extra patties can be added for an additional $2. Impossible burgers, barbecue burgers, mac and cheese burgers and spicy burgers are also offered.
Wings, tenders, loaded fries, cheesesteaks, hot chicken sandwiches and hot dogs fill out the menu along with the spot’s blissful burgers. The tenders, which can be overlooked at other stands, are no slouch here. They’re huge and can be ordered plain or tossed in any of Smash Bros’ six sauces: buffalo, barbecue, hot honey, hot honey garlic, very spicy, garlic parm and hot honey garlic.

”I just thought that South Jersey was lacking real food made from scratch that people could just grab and go. I thought the takeout concept would be good with high quality food,” Abuhmoud said.
Smash Bros has garnered a current following of about 4,000 on Instagram since opening three months ago and sees up to 300 orders per day on busy shifts. The space features a few outdoor tables for guests to eat if they’re lucky enough to find an empty seat in the tiny parking lot, which is often filled with patrons waiting for food.
”It means a lot to us that we have been getting the feedback we’re getting,” Abuhmoud said. “We are planning more locations, it just all depends on how consistent we can stay with what we’re doing now.”
