Joey Chandler is a pro and college sports reporter at NJ.com with a focus on general assignment, feature and enterprise stories. You can often find her at MetLife Stadium on NFL game days or at Jersey Mike's Arena covering the Rutgers women's basketball team. Chandler is in her 16th year as a sports journalist. Her work has been recognized at national and state levels. She's earned Associated Press Sports Editors honors and won first-place writing awards for features, columns and breaking news in Ohio, Alabama and North Carolina. She joined NJ.com in late April of 2021. Before arriving in New Jersey, she covered East Carolina University athletics for the Wilmington StarNews. She spent five years at the Tuscaloosa News as a preps writer, assisting with Alabama football coverage and the sports department intern program. In 2015, she was selected to take part in the APSE Diversity Fellowship program. She started her career covering high school sports in Ohio, including stops with the Mount Vernon News, Chillicothe Gazette and Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum. She graduated from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio in 2006, majoring in sport communication and journalism.
