Less than a year after its debut, one of New Jersey’s hottest new burger spots already has a second location.

Smash Bros, a budding South Jersey burger joint, opened a new outpost in Glassboro March 1. The expansion comes after Brothers Mo and Fahmi Abuhmoud opened the first Smash Bros in a 500-square-foot, takeout-only space in Runnemede last April.

The second restaurant is a result of the brand’s quick rise to popularity. The burger spot has amassed more than 34,000 Instagram followers since its debut.

The Abuhmoud brothers said the Smash Bros location in Runnemede often drew very long lines and dealt with storage issues. They are hopeful a larger space will be able to handle even greater demand. The Glassboro shop is a 16,000-square-foot restaurant with expanded seating and storage capabilities.

“The space is what we’re super excited about here,” Fahmi Abuhmoud told NJ Advance Media. “People can come in and experience Smash Bros firsthand and not have to take it out of our doors to sit and eat.”

The Abuhmoud brothers hope the larger kitchen space in Glassboro will help Smash Bros avoid issues that plagued the flagship location, namely running out of products.

“The worst thing as an owner is when someone comes from like Delaware or somewhere far, and we’re out of cheesesteaks or wings or sold all the burgers already,” Fahmi said. “It’s hard when they want to try a product and we don’t have it at that moment.”

The halal eatery’s scrumptious burgers are made with a ground brisket blend topped with cheese, grilled onions and homemade burger sauce on a Martin’s potato roll. The menu also features tenders, wings, loaded fries, cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs.

Fahmi Abuhmoud — who heads the restaurant’s culinary operations — said specialty items like “Flamin' Hot” mac and cheese bites and mac and cheese burgers will make appearances on the Glassboro menu.

“I made all of the recipes for our menu items but I’ve never had a real culinary background. I’ve just been cooking since middle school and high school for friends and family,” Fahmi said. “These are all things I enjoy making.”

The owners are also planning to open a dessert and coffee shop in the neighboring space in Glassboro. Further details on the dessert space, named Sweet Escape, will be announced in the coming months.

The Abuhmoud brothers hope Smash Bros' second location is just the beginning of continued expansion plans for the business.

“Definitely multiple locations coming soon and franchising opportunities in the future,” Mo Abuhmoud said.
