One of New Jersey’s fastest-growing Mexican restaurant chains is preparing to enter uncharted territory.

Tacoria Mexican Street Kitchen, the burgeoning fast-casual eatery, plans to open in Cherry Hill this summer. This new location will mark the company’s first Camden County outpost and its second restaurant in South Jersey.

The acclaimed taco and burrito joint will open in the Park Place at Garden State Park shopping center, taking over the space that formerly housed &pizza.

Tacoria is eyeing a June opening, although an exact date has yet to be determined. The Mexican chain will join brands like Shake Shack, Trader Joe’s and Chopt Creative Salad Company in the shopping complex.

The new location is the latest expansion for Tacoria. The New Brunswick-based chain ventured south of Mercer County for the first time when it opened a location in Marlton this past September.

“We got off to a great start in Marlton. Cherry Hill seemed like the next logical place to go,” co-founder Chuck Patel told NJ Advance Media. “It’s always exciting to enter a new market and it’s been a lot of fun being down in (Philadelphia) Eagles territory.”

Tacoria got its start near Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus. Childhood friends Chuck Patel, Dip Patel and brothers Sean and Haz Patel, a group of Middlesex County natives and Rutgers alumni, launched the restaurant in 2016.

The company has since opened nine other locations throughout the state. There are now also Tacoria restaurants in Edgewater, Hoboken, Jersey City, Marlton, Montclair, Morristown, Paramus, Piscataway and Princeton.

Locations in Freehold, Ridgewood, Somerville and Summit are also in the works. The Ridgewood shop is expected to open in May, according to Patel.

Since its inception, the eatery has drawn statewide acclaim for its tacos, burritos and more. The restaurant’s vegetarian burrito claimed the No. 6 spot on NJ.com’s latest ranking of the 19 best burritos in New Jersey. Tacoria’s unique golden avocado taco landed at No. 32 on the latest ranking of New Jersey’s 35 best tacos.

Tacoria’s original Middlesex County location ranked 10th on NJ.com’s list of the 11 best New Brunswick restaurants.
