A rooftop restaurant boasting incredible ocean views is the latest addition to Asbury Park’s burgeoning culinary landscape.

AP Rooftop, a new upscale, upstairs eatery, is opening its doors this week along the boardwalk. The business is expected to open Thursday or Friday although an exact date has not been determined, owner Tim McLoone told NJ Advance Media.

AP Rooftop will occupy the third floor of the 5th Avenue Pavilion on Ocean Ave. overtop of McLoone’s Iron Whale. Tim McLoone’s Supper Club and The Robinson Ale House are located nearby.

“It’s going to be a different concept than our other places,” McLoone said. “We see it more as a casual meeting place rather than a straight up restaurant.”

The rooftop eatery will feature tables, booths and bar seating for over 200 guests, floor-to-ceiling windows displaying a 270-degree view of the ocean and two large fireplaces to keep the space warm in winter months.

“We can’t just drop dead in January,” McLoone explained, noting the restaurant will be open year-round. “That way we can keep people employed, we don’t have to shut down for a couple of months and rebuild the whole staff.”

Asbury Park’s new elevated gathering spot connects to the Arthur Pryor Bandshell where concerts are held throughout the summer.

Food and drink offerings will include handheld, share-ables like pizza, sliders, seafood and a selection of cocktails. “It’s going to have a Mediterranean/Italian feel to it,” McLoone said of the menu, which has not yet been posted.

This will be the 10th spot under the McLoone umbrella, which also includes Kahuna Burger, McLoone’s Pier House and The Robinson Ale House (all in Long Branch); McLoone’s Boathouse (West Orange); CJ McLoone’s (Tinton Falls) The Robinson Ale House (Red Bank) and The Rum Runner (Sea Bright).

McLoone pointed to the shore town’s diversity as a reason for another business opening in Asbury Park.

”I always say to people the real attraction of Asbury Park is, if you look at that boardwalk there’s no demographic. It’s all ages, all ethnicities and everything,” McLoone said.
