Podcaster Joe Rogan, one of the right-wing voices credited with helping Donald Trump win the presidency, told a big slice of his listeners that he doesn’t want them on his team anymore.
In a rant that labeled MAGA immigration extremists as “assholes,” Rogan scolded them for cheering the Trump administration’s willingness to snatch undocumented parents and separate them from their children.
“I see a lot of people online talking about this immigrant issue,“ Rogan said on a recent podcast. ”And they either don’t have kids or they don’t think it could happen to their kids. Their idea is, ‘Hey, shouldn’t have f--king come over here. You get those kind of people. ‘You broke the law. Shouldn’t have come over here if you didn’t want to get your kids separated.’
“If you were in the presence of a woman who came over here from Guatemala and she’s poor and she’s starving and they’re taking her baby away and she’s wailing and screaming from a primal place in her DNA — the one thing she loves more than anything is being taken away. A baby! If that doesn’t freak you the f--k out, you’re not a part of the team, man. You’re missing it. You’re missing it."
Rogan then grew philosophical about our time on earth.
“What are we here for?” he said. “We’re here for a hundred years of whatever. That’s what we’re here for. If you want to spend a hundred years saying, ‘You shouldn’t have f--king broke the law,’ I don’t want you on the team. You’re an asshole. And I don’t give a f--k if you’re right or left. I don’t care if you’re religious. I don’t care if you’re an atheist. If that’s what you support, you’re an asshole. And we don’t want you on our team.
“I don’t give a f--k if they broke the law. You don’t take parents and kids and separate them. You just f--king don’t. It’s disgusting. If you’re saying, ‘Well, they shouldn’t have broke the law,’ maybe they shouldn’t have broke the law.
“You don’t get to do something that’s a thousand times worse than crossing a line in the dirt, that f--king imaginary line in the dirt, crossing [a border] is nothing in comparison to your crime of stealing a baby from its mother. That’s f--king insane.”
Rogan, who has hung out with Trump at UFC events, has broken with Trump over immigration. In April, he called Trump’s policy of grabbing undocumented immigrants who have not committed crimes and sending them to an El Salvador prison “horrific.”
“The thing is, like, you’ve got to get scared that people who are not criminals are getting, like, lassoed up and deported and sent to, like, El Salvador prisons,” Rogan said. “It’s horrific. It’s horrific.
“This is the thing, you know, measure it twice, cut once,” he said. “This is kind of crazy that that could be possible. That’s horrific. And that’s, again, that’s bad for the cause.”
Rogan added: “The cause is: Let’s get the gang members out. Everybody agrees. But let’s not, innocent gay hairdressers, get lumped up with the gangs.”
