Season 12 of “Alone” is dropping viewers in the Great Karoo Desert with its new season on History Channel on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. You can watch live as it airs, or previous episodes on demand, on Sling TV (half off first month) or Philo (free trial), or DIRECTV (free trial).
“Alone” has become a modern History Channel staple that, at this point in its run, could contend with any of the network’s other iconic series. The cast changes, but the gist of every season is that a handful of contestants, who are mostly survivalists, are dropped into a remote location in the wilderness, armed with nothing but a backpack and their own knowledge of survival.

The intrepid contestants confront a host of obstacles to overcome in their time on the show, including threats from wildlife, extreme weather, and the hostility of the location itself. To outlast everyone else participating is to win $500,000.
How to watch “Alone” for free
Philo is the cheapest and most immediately accessible way to watch “Alone” season 12 and more for free. However, cord cutters might also be drawn to the larger breadth of options provided by DIRECTV or Fubo TV, or the customization of Sling TV.
