Normally when you bring a smartphone on a plane, it is allowed through security and allowed to be used in-flight so long as it is in airplane mode.

However, there is one smartphone that the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA for short, will not let you bring past security.

The TSA has a large list of items that you cannot pack in your luggage or carry with you on a plane. These banned items range from flammables to sharp objects, as well as firearms.

But there’s one unexpected yet popular device you won’t be able to bring with you.

Here’s what you need to know about the banned smartphone.

Why won’t the TSA let you bring your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on a plane?

TSA has banned one specific smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, in checked and carry-on luggage.

The TSA issued “an emergency order to ban all Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone devices from air transportation in the United States.”

This means people with these phones can’t bring these devices with them on planes whether they are on their person, in carry-on luggage or checked luggage.

This order applies to “flights to, from, or within the United States,” according to TSA regulations.

While the TSA doesn’t specify why specifically this particular phone is banned, there are reports that the battery can overheat, explode or catch fire.

This is similar to the restrictions on lithium batteries not being allowed in checked luggage because they can pose a fire risk, if they short-circuit.
