For the first time, group homes in N.J. would face fines for harming disabled residents

Group homes operators would face fines for the first time when workers have physically abused or neglected people with developmental disabilities in their care, under a bill unanimously approved by a Senate committee Monday.

Relatives of injured group home residents wept before Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee as they described their frustration at not seeing any consequences for the workers and state-licensed agencies responsible for harming their loved ones.
