Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) blasted President Donald Trump’s administration on Monday for holding pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil in detention for months.
Khalil, a graduate student who was a key figure in Columbia University’s campus protests against the war in Gaza last year, was released on Friday evening after being held in immigration custody since March. He was arrested in New York City and was transported to a detention center in Louisiana, where he remained for three months.
