How Meri met Kody
Meri met Kody through being friends with Kody’s sister in October 1989 and became engaged to Kody two months later. Meri grew up in polygamy, so she knew she wanted a polygamous relationship at the time. The couple was engaged for four months before they officially tied the knot.
When did Meri and Kody get married?
Meri and Kody legally married on April 21, 1990, when Meri was 19 years old and Kody was 21 years old.
Did Meri and Kody Brown get divorced?
Meri filed for a legal divorce from Kody in 2014 so he could legally marry his fourth wife Robyn, whom he had only married spiritually. Meri made this decision so Kody could legally adopt Robyn’s three children from a prior marriage.
Meri and Kody remained spiritually married for years, despite their problems, until 2023, when the couple announced via Instagram that they were no longer spiritually married.

Meri shares one child with Kody, Leon, who is 27 years old. Leon came out as transgender in June 2022 and since then, has used they/them pronouns.
Leon secretly married Audrey Kriss in August 2023 at a Colorado courthouse.
