The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA for short, may ban lots of items from going through security.
However, there are some items that you would think wouldn’t be allowed through the security checkpoint, much less on a plane, but are actually allowed to be placed in carry-on luggage.
While there’s a slew of weird items you can pack in your carry-on, don’t try to get through TSA precheck with your Costco membership card.
Here are seven strange items that you can bring with you through the security checkpoint in your carry-on luggage, and in some cases, can be packed in checked luggage too.
Blenders
You can bring a blender in your carry-on so long as the blades inside have been removed, according to the TSA.
You can also pack these items in your checked luggage, but they must be “securely wrapped” to prevent the baggage inspectors and handlers from getting injured.
Live Lobsters
You can bring live lobsters through TSA security so long as they are in “clear, plastic, spill-proof” receptacles, according to the TSA.
While TSA will have no problem with you carrying a live lobster through security, it is strongly recommended that you check with your airline to see if you can bring your lobster on board the aircraft.
Bread machines
Bread machines can be packed in both carry-on and checked luggage, according to the TSA.
Clocks
Clocks can be packed in both carry-on and checked luggage, according to the TSA.
Desktop Computers
Desktop computers are allowed in both carry-on and checked luggage, but must be placed in a separate bin for screening, according to the TSA.
EZ Pass
Believe it or not, even your EZ Pass that you use to pay tolls on the highway is allowed.
According to the TSA, you can bring your EZ Pass in your checked and carry-on luggage.
Waffle Iron
Waffle irons can be packed in both carry-on and checked luggage, according to the TSA.
However, it is recommended you check with the specific airline you’re flying to see if the item will fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat if you wish to carry it with you.
