You might want to reconsider buying those dozen brown eggs if you live in certain areas of the U.S.

About 1.7 million dozen brown eggs are being recalled in nine states, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The reason for this, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is that 79 people fell ill with Salmonella in seven of the nine states as a result of consuming the eggs.

Twenty-one out of the 79 people were hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.

Which states reported illness due to Salmonella from the brown eggs?

According to the CDC, the following seven states (out of the nine impacted states) reported illnesses from Salmonella:

  • California
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • Washington
  • Kentucky
  • Nebraska
  • Arizona,
  • What should people do if they bought these dozen brown eggs?

    Consumers who purchased the dozen brown eggs are urged to return the eggs to their place of purchase for a full refund.

    The CDC also urged people not to eat, sell, or serve the eggs that fall under the recall.
